Why Project Management Skills are required.

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

Memorably depicted in the famous 1963 movie The Great Escape (itself based on former POW Paul Brickhill’s 1950 book), the breakout from Stalag Luft III has become an iconic event of the Second World War, enshrining both Allied bravery and Nazi evil.

The movie featured Steve McQueen, James Garner, Sir Richard Attenborough. And Charles Bronson.

What most people do not realise is this was a planned project with a start date and a finish date.

Like all Projects, people were invited to be on the Project team and each part of the project was carefully planned to ensure a successful outcome.

In business today, often people are called upon to be a part of a project and they are given specific tasks to complete either by themselves or by working as part of a team.

Often Project Management is an added task in a person’s usual position description so being able to be an effective part of the project, either as a Project Manager or coordinator or as a team member, it is a skill that needs to be learned and actioned.

So, what can you bring to the project?

Well without the knowledge and skills or understanding on how projects are managed and controlled, you really become a follower and you will be reacting to decisions being made from above.

However, with an understanding of how projects run, you now put yourself into a position of knowledge and are now able to contribute ideas and become a fundamental role in the project as it runs its course.

Those with project management skills are highly regarded in the workplace, so it really is important that you are adding these skills to your resume.

Illuminate Coaching & Training provide Project Management training is a 3-x day course that we run which provides the knowledge and skills you need to be a part of a successful project today and well into your career.
